Epoch, Masikewich named to U19 Women's Basketball National Team

Two University of Saskatchewan Huskie women's basketball athletes have made the cut for the U19 Women's National Team.

2016-17 rookie standouts Libby Epoch and Summer Masikewich will don the Canadian jersey in the FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup in July in Udine and Cividale del Friuli, Italy.

Epoch, a point guard, was named to the U SPORTS All-Rookie team after playing in all 20 games for the Huskies, starting 19 in 2016-17. She averaged 8.1 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game in her 31.9 minutes. Maskiewich also had a strong rookie campaign playing in all 20 regular season games and also starting 19. She tallied 8.7 points per game and 5.7 rebounds per game.

Kyla Shand, who will join the Huskies for 2017-18, has been named an alternate for the squad.

The Canadian team is currently at training camp until July 11th at Humber College - North and will travel to Voiron, France for an exhibition tournament from July 15-17 en route to Italy. Canada is set to compete against 3rd ranked France, 7th ranked Australia and 9th ranked China and will face host France Saturday July 15 at 12 PM EST.

The women tip-off at the FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup 2017 on Saturday July 22 against 15th ranked Korea at 8: 00 AM EST in Udine, Italy.

Canada looks to improve upon their 8th place finish from 2015.

Canada is currently ranked 4th worldwide in the FIBA youth girls rankings.
