SASKATOON – The No. 9 ranked University of Saskatchewan Huskies continued their chase for a home playoff series with a dominating 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-15) win over the University of Regina Cougars Friday night at the PAC.
With the win the Huskies improve to 14-9 on the season and remain in the hunt for a home playoff date.
Andrew Nelson and Jordan Nowakowski each had 10 kills to lead the way for Saskatchewan in the match. Tyler Epp put down four of his five attacks on the night while collecting four blocks and a service ace.
Matthew Lueck led Regina with eight kills in the match. Brad Millers had a team high three blocks.
The Huskies controlled play in the first set, maintaining their lead throughout. Regina kept things close, trailing just behind the Huskies the whole way. Saskatchewan would take the first 25-20 on a block by C.J. Gavlas and Tyler Epp to finish it off.
In the second set the Huskies jumped out to an early 5-2 lead. Regina responded and kept it close for a few points before Saskatchewan would pull way ahead at 21-10 en route to a 25-14 win.
Regina woke up in the third and quickly got ahead 4-1 on the hometown squad. It didn't take long for Saskatchewan to respond and erase the lead with a 10-1 spurt. The Cougars answered with a brief three-point spurt, but could not keep up with the Huskies on Friday night, falling 25-15.
