SASKATOON – University of Saskatchewan rookie Carson Stadnyk scored his first two goals of the season to lead the Huskies to a 4-1 win over rival the University of Alberta Golden Bears Friday night in Saskatoon's Rutherford Rink.
Stadnyk put Saskatchewan on the board at 12:09 in the first period. The rookie was able to swat a rebound on an Andrew Johnson shot mid-air passed Alberta netminder Luke Siemens glove. Stadnyk added his second of the season and the game just 56 seconds into the second period on a quick shot beating Siemens stick side.
Jesse Forsberg tallied the Huskies' third goal of the night at 15:26 in the second with a quick shot from the point.
The Golden Bears finally found the net at 9:19 in the third period with a Dylan Bredo shorthanded goal on a two-on-one.
Andrew Johnson scored a Saskatchewan insurance goal on the power play at 16:12 in the third period.
With the win, the No. 3 ranked Huskies jump over the No. 2 Golden Bears in the Canada West standings at 10-3-2 and 22 points. Alberta is 10-4-1 with 21 points.
Jordon Cooke finished the game making 20 saves for the Huskies, while Siemens stopped an impressive 40 for Alberta at the other end of the ice.
The two teams will meet again Saturday night at Rutherford Rink. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.
