Men's Hockey Loses In Shootout To Dinos

CALGARY- Elgin Pearce put the University of Calgary Dinos on the board before taking the shootout winner to defeat the University of Saskatchewan Huskies 2-1, Saturday evening, Nov. 19th at the Father David Bauer Arena in Calgary.

Calgary came out a completely different team from Friday night, after losing to the Huskies 5-0. Looking to erase last night's game, the Dinos found the back of the net just before the mid-way point of the first period.

On the power play, Dinos captain Dan Gibb went D-to-D to Drydn Dow who snapped a low shot on net. Pearce, Dinos leading goal scorer, pounced on the rebound, putting the Dinos up 1-0.

The Huskies evened things up mid-way through the middle frame. On the power play, Josh Roach faked a shot from the point before firing a slap shot past Dinos goaltender Matt Greenfield who was screened. Jesse Forsberg and Michael Sofillas both picked up assist on the play.

Neither team could break the tie in the third period. Saskatchewan's greatest opportunity came with just four minutes left to play in regulation, a Huskie forward tried to put a wrist shot past Greenfield but he reached cross-crease with his glove to send the game to overtime.

Overtime and double overtime solved nothing, sending the game to a shootout.

Chris Collins and Pearce scored the only goals of the shootout giving the Dinos the victory.

Saskatchewan will travel to Winnipeg next weekend, Nov. 25-26, to play a two-game series against the University of Manitoba Bisons.

The Dinos will host the University of Regina Cougars next weekend, Nov. 25-16, in a two-game series. Puck is set to drop at 7 p.m. on the 26th at the Father David Bauer Arena.
