The University of Saskatchewan Huskies led wire-to-wire Friday night at the PAC in Saskatoon to post a convincing 90-65 win over the Brandon University Bobcats.
The Huskies shot 49.2% and outrebounded the Bobcats 43-26 to improve to 3-2 on the season. Brandon, who now falls to 2-3, shot 34.4% in the loss.
Saskatchewan started out the game on an 8-0 run and never looked back. The Huskies extended the lead to 21-2 late in the quarter and finished the opening period with a 22-5 cushion.
It was more of the same in the second quarter as the home squad continued to increase the margin. The Huskies took a 49-22 lead to the locker room at half and finished the third up 72-42.
Four of the five Huskies starters reached double-digits in scoring in the game. Jaylan Morgan and Matt Forbes posted a season-high in points with 18 and 15 respectively. The Huskies' leading scorer Shane Osayande led the way once again with 21 points and finished just a rebound shy of another double-double with nine. The Saskatchewan forward went 11-for-13 from the free throw line.
Brandon was led by Kobyn Jopp's 12 points on five-of-six shooting. Tyvon Cooper and Girece Kazumba led the team on the glass with five rebounds each.
The two schools meet again on Saturday night at the PAC. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m., following the women's basketball national championship celebration.
