HUSKIE TRACK & FIELD HISTORY
The University of Saskatchewan track & field program has a strong tradition of winning. Since 1967, the men’s and women’s teams have won a combined 37 conference championships and 12 national titles. In 2004-05, the team became the second in history to win both the men’s and women’s national titles in the same year.
The first Canada West title in both men’s and women’s track & field was handed out in 1967-68 – the Huskie men won the title that year. In 1980-81, a national championship began for both teams. The Huskie women's track & field team has won two of the last three Canada West Championship titles.
Huskie Athletics track & field teams were led by well-respected head coach Lyle Sanderson from 1965 to 2005 before Ivan Tam and, current head coach, Joanne McTaggart took over the team. All three have won Canada West Coach of the Year honours. Both Tam and McTaggart are CIS champions with the Huskies.
